The Kronenhalle has been a cornerstone of Zurich’s dining scene for 100 years, attracting celebrities from around the world. While it is celebrated for its heritage, ambience, and art, it is not primarily known for its food. Star photographer Michel Comte, who considers the restaurant his second home, recalls celebrating all his family events there. Regular guests appreciate the consistency of the establishment despite generational shifts – though younger patrons sometimes turn up their noses, as illustrated by a nearly untouched oyster platter returning to the kitchen.
Head chef Peter Schärer, who once found it difficult that guests came for the atmosphere rather than the cuisine, now embraces the restaurant’s focus on tradition and experience. Alongside him, sous chef Robert Zeller, a descendant of founder Hulda Zumsteg, continues to honour the legacy of Hulda and her son Gustav, promising to maintain the kitchen in their spirit.
