The Kronenhalle is an unmissable institution in Zurich’s dining scene and has been for 100 years. This legendary restaurant attracts celebrities from around the world and is run by about 100 employees, who proudly call themselves the “Kronenhalle family.”
“Die Kronenhalle is bigger than anyone working here,” says valet Elio Frapolli. Yet it is this dedicated team that makes the restaurant, nestled in the triangle between the Opera House, Tonhalle, and Schauspielhaus, what it is today. Even during founder Hulda Zumsteg’s era, staff referred to themselves as a family, notes foundation president Andreas Spillmann. Christian Heiss, both head bartender and a yoga teacher and mental coach, confirms that this sense of togetherness remains strong.
The series’ third part highlights the restaurant’s famous bar, another legendary spot. A regular guest calls the Kronenhalle Bar “Zurich’s most democratic place,” where heiresses and struggling artists meet side by side.
